New Embedded Technology Gives Ability To Detect Activity Through Walls
In Star Trek, Spock has an instrument called a tricorder that allows him to see through walls. The problem is Star Trek is set in the year 2264 and that is a long time away. But as recent developments have shown, we may not have to wait that long to see such a technology.
Scientists have managed to create an embedded device that can detect motion through walls. The device, which is the size of a small toy works on pulsed radio frequency technology. It is so sensitive that it can not only detect the presence of a person in another room, it can also detect his breathing.
The applications for this device are varied. It can be used in a burglar alarm. When you go to sleep at night, you can turn the device on. If someone enters your home during the night without your notice, the device will alert you, giving you precious moments to call the police or take other action. Since the device detects presence, you can also modify it to turn the light (even the fan or AC) on or off when you enter or exit a room. If you have a baby in the house, you can use the device to see if the baby is breathing right when asleep. Talk about sci-fi becoming a reality!
